Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has implored Nigerians to be hopeful about the current Tinubu’s administration because the current strenuous reforms undertaken by the President Bola Tinubu’s government will bring about enormous gains later.
He stated this in his address to mark Nigeria’s 64th anniversary celebration in Calabar, the state capital.
He cautioned against hoping for early gains, saying: “The eyes of all Nigerians should be on the goal; and not the momentary pains that afflict the body and the stress that assail our mental capacity occasioned by the prevailing economic reforms introduced by the Federal Government.

“Admittedly, the inconveniences are enormous but the expected gains of these reforms far outweigh the pains. What is required at this critical time of our nationhood is perseverance.”
He assured that there is light at the end of the tunnel, adding that Nigeria has come a long way and is steadily progressing as a sovereign and indivisible political entity.
The governor told his people that the fundamental objective of Nigeria’s independence celebration should be primarily stock-taking and a meticulous assessment.
He justified Tinubu’s reforms saying the long and tortuous journey to independence undertaken by our forefathers therefore, can only be made fruitful and appreciated by setting and implementing enduring agenda for the political and economic emancipation of the people.
In other news, The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Segun Sowunmi has issued a stern warning about the potential fallout from the ongoing tension between Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
In Sowunmi’s view, the lingering discord poses a direct threat to Nigeria’s political pluralism, as it could inadvertently empower the All Progressives Congress (APC) to monopolize the political arena.
He stressed that the unresolved feud between the two PDP heavyweights risks pushing Nigeria toward a one-party system, which could undermine the fundamental democratic principles the nation is built upon.
