Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun, husband of former Nigerian Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun, died Wednesday in Lagos at 62, according to a statement from the Adeosun family. The family’s announcement, made available on Thursday and titled “Announcement of the passing of Mr Anthony Adeniyi (Niyi) Adeosun,” was issued by Rev. C.A. Adeosun on behalf of the family. It confirmed that Anthony died on August 5, 2026, in Lagos State.
“It is with profound sorrow, yet in total submission to the will of Almighty God, that the Adeosun family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, and brother, Mr Anthony Adeniyi (Niyi) Adeosun, who was called home to glory on Wednesday, 5th August 2026, in Lagos,” the statement read.

The family described Anthony as a distinguished businessman and devoted Christian whose integrity, generosity, and steadfast faith touched those who knew him, adding that he lived a life defined by hard work, service to God, and commitment to his family and community.
Citing Revelation 14:13, the family said it drew comfort from Scripture during what it called an irreplaceable loss, and requested privacy during the mourning period. Details of funeral and Christian burial arrangements will be communicated in due course, according to the statement.
Anthony is survived by his wife, Kemi; his children; and his siblings, including Adewale Adeosun, founder of investment firm Kuramo Capital, among other family members. The statement closed with an expression of gratitude to those who had reached out with prayers and condolences.

Kemi Adeosun served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance from 2015 to 2018 under President Muhammadu Buhari, becoming one of only three women to hold the office, alongside Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Zainab Ahmed. She resigned in September 2018 amid controversy over a National Youth Service Corps exemption certificate later found to be invalid, a dispute that dominated headlines at the time. She was later cleared in a 2021 court ruling, and earlier this year publicly addressed the episode for the first time in years, saying figures within the Buhari administration had targeted her over the matter. She went on to chair the board of the African Export-Import Bank.
Anthony Adeosun had largely maintained a private profile throughout his wife’s public career, managing family affairs in Lagos while she held office in Abuja. He had previously worked in banking and later moved into business consulting, splitting time between the United Kingdom and Nigeria before settling more permanently in Lagos in the early 2000s. No cause of death was disclosed in the family’s statement.
