Atletico Madrid announced on Monday the indefinite expulsion of a supporter who hurled projectiles onto the pitch during the intense derby clash with Real Madrid over the weekend, citing a zero-tolerance policy for disruptive behavior.
The highly anticipated derby clash between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid at Estadio Metropolitano on Sunday was temporarily suspended for 15 minutes after a section of Atletico supporters hurled various items, including lighters, onto the pitch, targeting Madrid players.
Angel Correa proved Atletico’s savior with a breathtaking last-gasp goal in the 95th minute, earning his side a hard-fought point.
“Our security department continues to work with the police to identify the rest of those involved, who will be permanently expelled as soon as they are located,” Atletico said.
“The club’s firm conviction to eradicate any form of violence and our defence of the values of sport are unquestionable.

“We will continue to work with all our resources with the aim of eliminating this type of behaviour,” they added.
Following the disturbing events, Atletico Madrid has introduced updated regulations governing fan attire inside the Estadio Metropolitano, seeking to promote a more respectful and secure matchday environment.
“The club will imminently incorporate into its internal regulations the prohibition of using inside the stadium any element or garment that prevents distinguishing the face of a person in order to hide their identity, which until now was not contemplated in our regulations,” the 11-time Spanish champions said.
“In the event of non-compliance with this rule, they will be immediately expelled from the stadium.
Atletico Madrid’s next home outing is scheduled for October 20, as they prepare to face off against Leganes in a crucial La Liga match that will test the team’s mettle.
