Spanish soccer sensation Álvaro Morata has revealed the bittersweet details behind his move to AC Milan, confessing that the excitement of a new chapter in his career was tempered by the painful demise of his marriage to Alice Campello.

Still basking in the euphoria of Spain’s Euro 2024 conquest, Álvaro Morata wasted no time in plotting his next move, completing a €13m switch to AC Milan on a four-year deal that ushers in a captivating new era for the 31-year-old goal-scorer at the legendary San Siro.

The seemingly idyllic marriage between Álvaro Morata and Alice Campello came to a close on August 12, as the couple took to Instagram to share a joint statement announcing their separation, a surprising turn of events that follows their enchanting Venice wedding in 2017.

Álvaro Morata, the well-traveled Spanish striker, revealed that his estranged wife, Alice Campello, had been hesitant to leave Spain, preferring to stay rooted in their home country rather than accompany him on his latest adventure to Italy, ultimately contributing to the demise of their marriage.

He also addressed rumors of infidelity, insisting that he was faithful throughout their seven years together. “I am devastated, but I swear I never cheated on her. She’s the most important woman in my life. I am tired of people saying I was unfaithful to Alice. I didn’t even attend the national team party to avoid such rumors. Since then, I have avoided speaking publicly out of respect for her and to prevent further speculation,” he told De Corazón.

Morata added, “Alice wanted to remain in Spain and wasn’t willing to move again. Despite our differing views, we maintain a strong relationship for the sake of our four children. There are no regrets.”

Speaking to Marca, Alice Campello opened up about the emotional toll of her experiences, citing the challenges of post-partum depression following the arrival of their fourth child and the strain of frequent relocations due to Álvaro Morata’s nomadic soccer career as key factors in their decision to part ways.

“We are two young people, we have both been immature when it comes to managing certain situations, there are many children, moments of instability of being from one country to the other. My post-partum depression has had an influence and his, too, which has not allowed us to manage certain situations between us,” she explained.

Campello took the opportunity to quash rumors of Morata’s alleged infidelity during her conversation with Marca, stressing that the real reasons for their split lay in her own personal struggles, including post-partum depression and the strain of frequent relocations.

“We love each other infinitely, love does not end from one day to the next, we respect each other a lot and nothing will change. It is what we both needed now, however, I know that Alvaro would kill for me,” she added.

Morata and Campello’s family is complete with four little ones: twins Alessandro and Leonardo, born in 2018, their son Edoardo, born in 2020, and their newest addition, daughter Bella, who arrived in 2023.
