In the chaos that followed a nationwide protest in Kano State, a group of thugs took advantage of the situation and vandalized the Kano State High Court, making off with important documents related to corruption charges against former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. The state government has since confirmed the incident.
While assessing the damage at the Kano State High Court, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf spoke to journalists, acknowledging the attack and confirming that important documents had been taken.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was joined on his visit by a delegation of top officials, including Attorney General Haruna Isah Dederi, Chief Registrar Abdullahi Ado Bayero, and other senior judiciary leaders, who together assessed the damage and impact on the court.
The rampage left a trail of destruction, with several sections of the High Court severely damaged, including the office of the state Chief Judge.
In a statement made available to journalists by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf described the incident as a “masterminded and stage-managed mission” aimed at disrupting the ongoing corruption cases against Ganduje, who is currently serving as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
“It is very unfortunate that enemies of Kano State hired undesirable elements to vandalize one of the historic public buildings with a mission of averting corruption charges against the Acting National Chairman of APC and former governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his family, and aides,” the statement read.

The rampage left a trail of destruction, with several sections of the High Court severely damaged, including the office of the state Chief Judge. The estimated cost of the damages exceeds one billion naira, with the vandals making off with vital office equipment, razing office spaces, and torching cars and essential materials critical to the justice system.
Governor Yusuf appealed to the young people of Kano State to resist the temptation of violence, often instigated by those with ulterior motives. Instead, he encouraged them to channel their energy into acquiring skills that would pave the way for a brighter future.
“I urge our youth to resist being used as tools for violence. The future is in your hands, and you should concentrate on skills acquisition for a better tomorrow,” the governor said.
Governor Yusuf promised to defend the judiciary, the ultimate protector of the common man’s rights, with unrelenting passion. He instructed the immediate refurbishment of the court building and the deployment of state-of-the-art security measures to guarantee the uninterrupted administration of justice.
“We will not relent in securing the lives and property of the people of Kano State. The judiciary must be protected to ensure justice for all,” he stated.
The governor also expressed his sympathies to the Chief Judge, Dije Abdu Aboki, and the entire judiciary for the unfortunate incident, urging them to remain resilient in their pursuit of justice.
Governor Yusuf offered his condolences to the Chief Judge and the judiciary, stating that they need to rally together to make up for the lost ground in court proceedings, ultimately for the benefit of the common man.
