Inferno Reduces Soap Factory In Anambra To Ashes

A devastating inferno has razed a soap factory and an adjacent plastic waste dump on Amanato Street in Ugwuagba Obosi, Idemili North LGA, Anambra State, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

In a briefing with journalists in Onitsha, Anambra State’s top fire official, Chief Fire Officer Chukwudi Chiketa, corroborated the incident, shedding light on the extent of the damage.

The Anambra Fire Service sprang into action after receiving a 1:40am distress call, Chiketa explained, which reported a fire raging through a small soap production facility and plastic waste dumping site on Amanato Street.

Information revealed that the state’s firefighting resources were quickly activated, with a team of firefighters and a fire truck being rapidly dispatched to the incident location.

“The state firefighters and a fire truck were deployed immediately to the scene of the incident.

It was said that they valiantly struggled against the fire and successfully checked its spread, sparing a four-story building from potential destruction.

“They fought and contained the fire, and prevented it from hitting a four-storey building,” he said.

The chief fire officer revealed that investigators are still working to determine the fire’s cause, but fortunately, there were no casualties.

The chief fire officer indicated that his team extinguished the flames and departed the location at 3:40 am, marking the end of the response effort.

Chiketa appealed to the public to prioritize fire safety, adopting precautionary measures to prevent fires and minimize potential damage.
