Imo: Everyday Supermarket Sealed Over Structural Flaws

The Imo State Government has enforced the closure of Everyday Supermarket and neighboring businesses located in the Ikenegbu area within Owerri Municipal Council.

Concerns raised by Imo-based structural engineer, Kingsley Onwubiko, regarding structural flaws detected on the walls of the supermarket, served as the basis for the decision.

In a quick response, the government sealed the plaza to facilitate a thorough integrity test and potential reinforcement of the buildings.

When journalists visited the site, it was apparent that officials from the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) had sealed off the entire premises and suspended all business operations within the plaza.

An insider from the agency affirmed that the instruction to seal the plaza was issued by Governor Hope Uzodimma, emphasizing the administration’s resolve to forestall any instances of building collapse that could result in the loss of life or property.

Voicing his apprehensions, Onwubiko lauded the government’s quick action, commending the decision to seal the property for a thorough integrity assessment.

The application for the recruitment examination took place between January 2 and February 2, 2024, with many Imo State indigenes showing interest.

The Nigerian Navy authorities have fixed the examination for Imo State applicants at the 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, Owerri, for 9 am on Saturday, February 17, 2024.
