Some unknown gunmen have reportedly laid siege on the Inyi Police Division in the Oji-River Local Government Area of Enugu State which had also led to the death of two policemen on duty.

The hoodlums had also set the station ablaze after some of the guns and ammunition in the station had been carted away.

The attack had also occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning at Arum Inyi Police Division.

A video of the attack which had been obtained by The Eastern Updates showed two bodies suspected to be policemen killed lying in front of the station’s perimeter fence.

In the video, the roof of a storey building police station is seen on fire.

Voices in the background of the video identified one person as a policeman while there was controversy over whether the second person is a policeman or not.

A resident of the Arum Inyi where the police station is located confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

The resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Actually, I left the community on Saturday for Enugu, but I got information from my community a few hours ago that gunmen attacked the police station in my town, and that they killed one police officer. Right now I don’t have further details.”

A security alert being circulated on social media platforms in Enugu State capital warned residents of the area and its surroundings to be careful and be security conscious while they move around.

In another development, some unknown gunmen have attacked members of the Labour Party who were holding a meeting in Enugu West Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

The Eastern Updates reports that the gunmen, numbering about four, stormed the venue of the meeting at the weekend and accused Labour Party members of bringing ‘Fulani’ into ‘Biafraland’. The scene caused party members to flee.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened at about 5:30 p.m.

It was not clear, for now, if they were the same gunmen that attacked party members not long ago in the same Enugu.

The police spokesperson in the state, Daniel Ndukwe, did not respond to calls and text message seeking comments from him on the incident.
