The APC youth leader, who had also been the chairperson of a local vigilante group, was shot dead in the community on Saturday, while travelling on a commercial motorcycle and the motorcyclist conveying him was said to have escaped unhurt.

Sources said there were speculations in the community that the incident must have been an assassination.

The police spokesperson in Enugu State, Daniel Ndukwe, has confirmed the incident.

“The command has launched an investigation into the case of the alleged shooting and murder of one Lucky Idoko,” he said.

In another report, fresh reports reaching the desk of The Eastern Updates have revealed that about three policemen have been allegedly wounded when some unspecified number of gunmen had on Wednesday night laid siege on the Abia State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, headquarters of the Nigeria Police, located at Uzuakoli Road.

The details of the invasion are still sketchy at the time of filing this report but a source had revealed that one of the cops was matched by the invaders while two were shot.

The victims were said to have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

There were also fears that the armoury of the station might have been raided by the attackers but efforts to confirm the attack were unsuccessful as the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Geoffrey Ogbonna did not pick up calls put across to him.
