3 Policemen Wounded As Gunmen Attack Abia State CID

Fresh reports reaching the desk of The Eastern Updates have revealed that about three policemen have been allegedly wounded when some unspecified number of gunmen had on Wednesday night laid siege on the Abia State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, headquarters of the Nigeria Police, located at Uzuakoli Road.

The details of the invasion are still sketchy at the time of filing this report but a source had revealed that one of the cops was matched by the invaders while two were shot.

The victims were said to have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

There were also fears that the armoury of the station might have been raided by the attackers but efforts to confirm the attack were unsuccessful as the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Geoffrey Ogbonna did not pick up calls put across to him.

The facility was sometime last year invaded by unknown gunmen who burnt part of the premises after freeing the inmates.

In a related development, Charles Soludo who is the Governor of Anambra State has made some open claims that most of the criminals who they have apprehended for criminal activities in the State are unknown gunmen and Igbos as well.

According to the Governor, Anambra’s wealth has made it one of the hottest targets of kidnappers.

Soludo stated this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Sunday.

The governor had also claimed that contrary to claims, those perpetrating criminalities are known and not unknown as being reported in the media.

He also made some open claims that most of the criminals who they have apprehended for criminal activities in the State are unknown gunmen and Igbos as well.

According to the Governor, Anambra’s wealth has made it one of the hottest targets of kidnappers.
