Enugu: Unknown Gunmen Attack Army Checkpoint, Kill 2

There has been noticeable palpitation in Enugu State as some gunmen on Tuesday laid siege on an army checkpoint which was located at Obeagu-Amodu road in Enugu South local government area of Enugu State.

The reports had also gathered that the hoodlums had also stormed the checkpoint in two Lexus Jeeps and one Toyota Sienna around 7:25 am and reportedly opened fire at the combined team of Police and military.

There was also heavy shooting and about two deaths were recorded during the shootout.

Efforts made to get police reaction failed as the Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO DSP Daniel Ndukwe did not pick his calls or reply the message sent to him till the time of filling the story.

In another related report, about three policemen have been allegedly wounded when some unspecified number of gunmen had on Wednesday night laid siege on the Abia State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, headquarters of the Nigeria Police, located at Uzuakoli Road.

The details of the invasion are still sketchy at the time of filing this report but a source had revealed that one of the cops was matched by the invaders while two were shot.

The victims were said to have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

There were also fears that the armoury of the station might have been raided by the attackers but efforts to confirm the attack were unsuccessful as the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Geoffrey Ogbonna did not pick up calls put across to him.
