Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONET), a platform for citizens and non-state actors, has appealed to the Federal Government to open Umueri International Cargo and Passenger Airport in Anambra State for use ahead of the November 6 governorship election.
The group’s Chairman, Prince Chris Azor, who is also the national coordinator, Coalition on Improving Service Delivery (NACOISED), said that the terminal building of the airport was ready.
Addressing reporters after a monitoring and evaluation exercise, he said opening the airport before the poll would not only address insecurity, but also assist the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in conducting a free, fair, credible and peaceful election.
He recalled that Finance Minister Zainab Ahmed and her counterpart in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adebayo, recently flew into the state through the airport, to inaugurate projects.
Said he: ‘Opening the airport before the governorship poll will address insecurity and assist INEC in conducting a free, fair, credible and peaceful election, through prompt arrival of election materials and sundry logistics.’
