Atiku Defeats Amaechi To Emerge ADC Presidential Candidate

Former Vice President and current presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has emerged as the flag bearer and presidential candidate of the party.

The collation of results was announced at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, late Wednesday.

Tunde Ogbeha, the returning officer of the ADC presidential primary election, announced Abubakar as the winner of the poll.

Abubakar polled 1,846,370 votes, defeating former Managing Director of the defunct FSB International Bank, Mohammed Hayatudeen, and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Amaechi polled 504,117 votes, while Hayatu-Deen got 177,120 votes.

The president polled 10.99 million votes to defeat his only rival, who scored 16,504 in the APC presidential primaries held in 8,809 wards across the country.

This emerged from the ongoing national collation of the presidential primaries results at the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.

APC governors in 31 states and other top brass of APC who are coordinators and collation officers in their states presented the results of the direct primaries to the presidential Primary Election Committee, chaired by former Senate President Pius Anyim.

While President Tinubu dominated all the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, winning 100% votes in most of them, Osifo put up an impressive performance in a few states like Niger, where he scored 5,248, Kano-2,675, Lagos -1,186, Abia -1,007, Oyo-929, Benue-779, and Nasarawa with 768 votes.

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has backed the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Ohanaeze said that after careful deliberation and objective assessment, the body affirmed that it is in the best collective interest of the Igbo nation to support the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

It stated that the approach is aimed at securing the 2031 vice presidency under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ensuring that the South-East region benefits fully from federal initiatives.
