The Anambra State Police Command has reassured residents that it is taking decisive action against the circulation of panic-inducing voice notes and unverified security messages on social media.
In a statement on Sunday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said preliminary assessments show that the recordings lack verified credibility. Nevertheless, the police have intensified security measures, including enhanced visibility patrols and targeted surveillance in all areas mentioned in the messages.
“While these voice notes and social media posts cannot be confirmed as accurate, the Command has put proactive measures in place to ensure that no potential threat—real or fabricated—is ignored,” Ikenga said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has instructed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Units, and Joint Security Teams to remain on heightened alert, strengthen intelligence gathering, and maintain continuous patrols both day and night.

The PPRO urged citizens to remain calm and continue their daily activities, assuring them that police officers remain vigilant and committed to their constitutional duty of safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Ikenga also warned the public against sharing unverified information, noting that such actions could result in legal consequences. He encouraged residents to report any genuine security concerns through official channels: Control Room Hotline 07039194332 and Emergency Number 112.
Over the past weekend, social media in Anambra was flooded with messages and voice notes alerting the public about alleged criminal activities in Nnewi and other communities. The Police Command has emphasized that these reports are being treated seriously while urging citizens to avoid spreading misinformation.
