The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has stated that there is no evidence of Christian genocide in Nigeria.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made this known on Tuesday while appearing as a guest on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television monitored by The Eastern Updates.
His remarks followed the recent declaration by United States President Donald Trump, who designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over allegations of Christian genocide.
The Eastern Updates also reported that Trump claimed he had directed the U.S. Defence Department to prepare for possible military action in Nigeria if the Nigerian government “continues to allow the killing of Christians.”
Reacting to the allegation, the ADC spokesman said, “I cannot say there is evidence of genocide and from what we have seen we cannot describe what is going on as genocide.
“The question is not about how the Americans are framing it. The question is that people are being killed in Nigeria and we have the opportunity to let the Americans know that there’s no genocide going on in Nigeria.”
In other news, there was a mild drama on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, as the President of the Red Chamber, Senator Godswill Akpabio and his Deputy, Senator Jibrin Barau differed on American President Donald Trump’s threat of military action against terrorists in Nigeria over alleged Christian genocide in some parts of the country.
Akpabio, who was making reference to a report by a social media platform, RANT HQ, alleging that he rebuffed Trump on Nigeria’s classification as a Country of Particular Concern, CPC, at the end of plenary, said he never attacked the American President, and that he could only convey the collective resolution of the Senate on the matter.
The platform had quoted the Senate President as saying, “The killing is taking place in Nigeria not in the USA, Trump should focus on US. Nigerians are not complaining about the killings, we are fully satisfied with the condition of Nigeria.”\
