A former member of the House of Representatives from Bayelsa State, Israel Sunny-Goli, has said Governor Douye Diri will soon join the ruling party.
Sunny-Goli expressed this optimism on Thursday while responding to questions in an interview on Politics Today, on Channels Television monitored by The Eastern Updates.
According to him, Governor Diri’s leadership style and development strides align with the APC’s progressive agenda, making him a welcome addition to the party if he decides to make the switch.
“We see a leader who is competent, capable, sincere, and ready to take the state to the next level. I can tell you, he will finish stronger than any governor that has come before him because of the projects we see on ground.
“That is why those of us in the APC are praying and hoping that, when he finally tells the world which party he’s going to, it will be the APC,” Sunny-Goli said.
The Eastern Updates reports that, after weeks of speculation, Governor Diri finally announced his resignation from the PDP on Wednesday at the Executive Council Chamber of the Bayelsa State Government House.
He said his decision was for an “obvious reason” but did not state the reason or the political party to which he would be moving.
In a landmark political realignment, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, bringing with him a broad coalition of state lawmakers, local government leaders, and party executives. Speaking before a packed rally in the state capital, Mbah described the decision not as a partisan maneuver, but as a strategic step to ensure Enugu’s voice is heard at the national level.
“This is bigger than politics,” Mbah told supporters. “It is about aligning our state’s future with a vision that delivers tangible results for the people of Enugu.” He dismissed rumors that his move was influenced by internal party disputes or coercion, specifically noting that his decision was not related to controversies surrounding former PDP national youth leader Sunday Ude-Okoye.
The governor’s defection encompasses a sweeping section of Enugu’s political machinery: members of the executive committee, the state House of Assembly, local government chairmen, councillors, and over 80 percent of PDP state executives have joined him in embracing the APC. A reconciliation committee will be formed to unify party structures and integrate former PDP members.
