Adamu Garba, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has publicly declared that he will no longer criticize former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, describing him as a “worthy statesman.”
In a post on his verified X account on Saturday, Garba admitted to being one of Obi’s most vocal critics during the 2023 general elections.
However, Garba said he has come to acknowledge the former Anambra State governor’s resilience and political relevance even in opposition.
“Nobody attacked @PeterObi during the last election like I did. But to some significant degree, he is able to reorganise and made himself shockingly endearing to many.
“Even in the opposition, I’ll no longer attack him like I did before, because he came to me as a worthy statesman,” Garba wrote.
The Eastern Updates reports that Obi, who came third in the 2023 presidential election, has continued to enjoy significant support among Nigerian youths and civil society groups.
Obi is particularly noted for his consistent advocacy of good governance, accountability, and economic reform.
Jerry Gana, a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has claimed the party has reached out to Peter Obi to return.
He revealed this while speaking on AIT’s programme, Focus Nigeria, on Friday.
Obi resigned from the PDP on May 25, 2022, ahead of the 2023 elections.
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, left the PDP days before its presidential primary, citing that “recent developments in the party do not support constructive contributions”.
When asked if the party had spoken with Obi about returning, Gana responded, “Why not?”
