Embattled ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, on Monday stormed the state House of Assembly.

Obasa joined some lawmakers in a meeting held outside the chamber of the Assembly.

Mojisola Meranda, incumbent Speaker of the assembly, attended the meeting.

The meeting subsequently broke into two groups of at least 10 lawmakers each.

Recall that crisis started when lawmakers impeached Obasa while he was away in the United States, US, in January.

Upon his return, Obasa described his removal as unconstitutional because it never followed due process.

However, Obasa stormed the assembly last week and forcefully broke into the office the Speaker.

He also presided over plenary while declaring that he was never removed as Speaker.

In other news, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has apologised to security agencies following the recent assault on operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) within the Lagos State Assembly premises.

The Eastern Updates reports that Obasa, who was impeached as Speaker of the House in January, stormed the Assembly premises on Thursday with the aid of Police escorts and declared his return to office as Speaker.

Recall that viral videos showed security men battling workers of Assembly on February 17, 2025, during a tense moment at the legislative House. The incident led to the arrest, arraignment, and remand of some of the assembly officials accused of assaulting DSS officials.

Following investigations, the secret police arrested the assembly officials alleged to have been directly involved in the assault on DSS operatives. Those arrested include Olalekan Azeez, the Sergeant-at-Arms of the Lagos State House of Assembly; Adekunle Ajayi, a legislative officer; and Ganiyu Hassan, an aide to a principal officer in the Assembly. The suspects were arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate Court on charges of assault, obstruction of lawful duty, and breach of public peace. After the hearing, the court ordered their remand at the Kirikiri Correctional Center pending further proceedings.
