President Donald Trump is considering launching an investigation into alleged fraud and waste of aid to Ukraine amid the ongoing war with Russia, Reuters reports.

This comes shortly after a heated exchange between Trump, his deputy JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The talks between Trump and Zelensky at the Oval Office broke down, with the Ukrainian President later seen leaving the White House.

The Eastern Updates reports that Zelensky was in the United States to sign a minerals deal with President Trump.

However, it has now been confirmed that the formal agreement will not proceed for the time being.

A handful of Democrats who met with President Volodymyr Zelensky this morning are flabbergasted by what happened in the Oval Office when the meeting between President Donald Trump and the Ukrainian leader devolved into a shouting match.

Top Democrats on the Senate Foreign Relations and Senate Armed Services Committees criticized the US president over his handling of the visit.

Here’s what they said:

Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii described the meeting with a bipartisan group of lawmakers as respectful and cordial. “This is about the American presidency going off the rails and taking the side of the bad guys,” Schatz said of Trump’s actions in the Oval Office. “He did it on purpose in the Oval. We all have to seriously consider the possibility that the President of the United States does not share the values of … Americans.”

Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware told CNN, “Every time I’ve met with Zelensky he has thanked the American people for our strong support. I’m clear (Vladimir) Putin is the dictator who invaded Ukraine and Zelensky and the brave Ukrainian fighters who have stood up for Russia deserve our thanks and support — so heartsick today’s meeting went so badly.”

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, the ranking member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said in a statement on X that Trump and Vance’s handling of the meeting with Zelensky was “disgraceful and downright un-American”

Sen. Jack Reed, the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, called the meeting “a political ambush” and “a shameful failure of American leadership,” according to a statement. He also said Trump and Vance are “communicating to the world that the United States is not to be trusted. Adversaries and allies alike will take note.”
