Former President Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, defended his eight-year tenure, stating that Nigeria witnessed notable improvements in security and economic stability under his leadership. He emphasized that his administration made significant strides in tackling insurgency and revitalizing key economic sectors, despite the challenges faced.

He shared these remarks at his country home in Daura, Katsina State, while receiving members of the Katsina State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, who had paid him a courtesy visit.

Buhari reflected on the state of the nation before his tenure, noting that security threats and economic instability had severely affected Nigeria. He maintained that his administration took decisive steps to curb terrorism and steer the economy away from collapse, leaving the country in a stronger position.

Expounding on his administration’s approach, Buhari credited the revolving economic and security policies for successfully mitigating the instability he inherited. He emphasized that governing Nigeria came with numerous challenges, which, he argued, were only fully appreciated by those in leadership positions, given the persistent bureaucratic and structural impediments to policy execution.

“Security and economy improved significantly in Nigeria under my administration compared to what we met in 2015. Things will continue to improve in Nigeria”, he insisted.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Katsina State, Alhaji Yusuf Jargaba, thanked the former President for tackling terrorism, banditry and other security challenges during his tenure.

“Your hard work, dedication and selfless service to humanity were responsible for maintaining the country’s unity, making the country remain indivisible”, Jargaba stated.
