This Wednesday, Nigeria will welcome the Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Yi, for an official visit that promises to deepen the diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations. Wang Yi’s arrival in Abuja is part of ongoing efforts to reinforce the robust partnership between China and Nigeria, with a focus on advancing mutual interests in trade, infrastructure development, and international cooperation.
Wang Yi, a distinguished member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, will dedicate his time in Abuja to a series of high-level discussions designed to deepen the partnership between Nigeria and China. These talks are expected to cover various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including trade, infrastructure, and mutual diplomatic objectives.
Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Acting spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, shared the news of Wang Yi’s official visit on Tuesday. The visit will see Yi engaging in a key meeting with Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, on Thursday, where they will discuss strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues for collaboration between the two nations.
The discussions are anticipated to center on deepening the collaboration between Nigeria and China, with particular emphasis on advancing key sectors such as trade, infrastructure development, and technology. Both nations are eager to explore new opportunities that will drive mutual growth and strengthen their economic and strategic alliances.
The statement read, “The Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Wang Yi, will arrive in Abuja, Nigeria, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, for an official visit.
“The visiting Foreign Minister who is also a Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China will be received on arrival by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
“During his visit, H.E. Mr. Wang Yi will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja on Thursday, January 9, 2025 for bilateral talks that will focus on strengthening relations between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.”
In addition to his diplomatic engagements, he will pay a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. He will deliver a special message from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Tinubu.
“The visiting foreign minister will also pay a courtesy call on President Bola Tinubu, to deliver a special message from the Chinese President at the Presidential Villa,” it added.
His visit is expected to further bolster these ties while creating new opportunities for collaboration in several sectors.
