Rev. Father Joseph Enyinnaya, a Catholic priest, has been apprehended after allegedly shooting and killing a young boy. The incident, which took place in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, followed the boy’s alleged act of throwing a firecracker, known locally as a “knockout,” into St. Columbus Catholic Church.
The arrest has shocked the community, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
Eyewitness account exposed that the Catholic priest brought out his pistol and shot the boy who allegedly threw the banger inside the church premises.
The police confirmed the arrest of Rev. Father Joseph Enyinnaya following the incident that occurred on December 31, 2024. The tragic shooting, which resulted in the death of a young boy, prompted an immediate investigation, with law enforcement taking action based on the available evidence and eyewitness accounts.

In his reaction, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, stressed that, “The priest has been arrested, and the body of the boy has been recovered and deposited at Atta Mortuary.”
The PPRO highlighted that a detailed investigation has been put in place to ascertain the immediate and remote factors surrounding the ugly incident.
He said, “The police investigation is expected to throw more light on the events leading up to the incident,” he said.
