United States President Joe Biden says the incident that occurred in New Orleans on Wednesday morning is currently being investigated.

The Eastern Updates recalls that at least 10 people were killed after a vehicle drove into a large crowd in New Orleans, a city in Louisiana, United States on New Year’s Day.

The incident was said to have occurred in the French Quarter, a popular tourist area, when a car sped down Bourbon Street.

Reacting, Biden in a post on his official X handle, said the “FBI is taking the lead in investigation” describing the incident as an “act of terrorism”.

“I will continue to receive updates throughout the day, and I will have more to say as we have further information to share.

“My heart goes out to the victims and their families who were simply trying to celebrate the holiday.

“There is no justification for violence of any kind, and we will not tolerate any attack on any of our nation’s communities,” Biden added.

United States President-elect, Donald Trump, has attributed the deadly truck attack on a crowd of revelers in New Orleans on Wednesday to illegal immigration, the issue at the heart of his election victory.

The Eastern Updates reports that no fewer than 10 people were killed after a vehicle drove into a large crowd in New Orleans, a city in Louisiana, United States.

Posting on social media, Trump said criminals immigrating into the country are worst than the indigenous ones.

“When I said that the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in the country… it turned out to be true,” he said.

Meanwhile, the police have not indicated the nationality or identity of the attacker.

According to the president-elect, the nation’s crime rate is at a level that nobody has ever seen.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, said that violent crime is sharply down across the country.
