Anambra Insecurity Not As Bad As Opposition Claims – Soludo

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has accused opposition politicians of exacerbating fears about insecurity in the state, alleging that they are exploiting the security situation for political gain. He emphasized that such actions only serve to undermine efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.

Governor Soludo, through a statement by his spokesperson, Christian Aburime, highlighted that ensuring security is a shared obligation that extends beyond the state government.

He lamented that in Anambra, a troubling narrative has emerged where some are using security issues as an opportunity to undermine his administration instead of rallying together to address the pressing challenges.

The statement read, “Indeed, critics of the current security situation raise valid points that deserve attention. However, sometimes, the tendency to politicise security challenges or exaggerate incidents for ulterior motives serves no one’s interests.

“Such approaches only create unnecessary panic and potentially hamper ongoing security operations. What Anambra needs now is a unified approach where government efforts are complemented by citizen cooperation.

“This means regular intelligence sharing between communities and security agencies, constructive dialogue between critics and government officials, community-level security awareness and vigilance, and reduced politicisation of security issues.

“Security, by its nature, universally demands a collaborative approach. The most effective security systems worldwide rely on active citizen participation, intelligence sharing, and community engagement.

“When citizens withhold information or choose political criticism over constructive dialogue, they inadvertently weaken the security architecture they seek to strengthen.”

While acknowledging the presence of security challenges in the state, the governor warned against sensationalizing the situation, noting that such narratives could undermine collective morale. He called for a balanced perspective that recognizes the government’s initiatives in tackling these threats while advocating for ongoing improvements to enhance security.

In the same vein, he promised to demonstrate commitment in addressing security concerns through consistent support to law enforcement agencies, from providing logistics, to ensuring adequate funding.
