Cameroon, Ghana Among Petrol Buyers – Dangote Refinery

Listen to article

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced the successful export of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to several African nations, including Cameroon, Ghana, Angola, and South Africa, marking a notable milestone in regional energy trade.

In a conversation with a delegation from the Japanese Business Community in Nigeria, led by Japan’s Ambassador-designate Suzuki Hideo, Dr. Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries, unveiled the refinery’s latest achievements.

He said: “In recent weeks, we’ve exported petrol to Cameroon, Ghana, Angola, and South Africa among others. Diesel has gone all over the world, and jet fuel is being heavily exported to European markets. Our products are already making their mark internationally.”

He emphasized that by harnessing Africa’s abundant crude oil resources to produce refined products locally, the Dangote Group seeks to foster a sustainable cycle of industrial growth, job creation, and long-term economic prosperity across the continent.

According to Dr. Edwin, the facility is the realization of Aliko Dangote’s vision, a Nigerian investor, and stands as a testament to Nigerian ingenuity, designed and built locally, yet aimed at serving markets around the world.

He stated that it is a point of immense pride that a Nigerian company was responsible for both the design and the construction of the world’s largest single-train refinery complex, adding that Dangote Industries Limited, a Nigerian-owned corporation, handled the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) aspects of the project.

Dr. Edwin assured the ambassador-designate and the delegation that the company is open to collaboration, always striving to maintain the best possible standards.

He said: “Even now, we have a lot of Japanese equipment inside both the refinery and the fertiliser plant. There are significant opportunities for collaboration, as we always seek the latest technology in any business we engage in. For instance, our cement plant laboratory is managed by robots, and we always embrace advanced technology. With Japan’s focus on technological innovation, there is ample scope for cooperation and for supplying various types of technology.”

Edwin pointed out that the Dangote Petrochemical project is set to usher in a new era of economic opportunity for Nigeria. By attracting critical investments to downstream industries, it will not only generate value and create employment but also enhance tax revenues, reduce foreign exchange outflows, and provide a much-needed boost to the nation’s GDP, reinforcing Nigeria’s position in the global economic landscape.

Hideo praised the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals complex, calling it an extraordinary example of Nigerian ingenuity. He noted that the facility stands as a proud testament to the country’s technological progress, serving as a shining example of what Africa can achieve in the global industrial arena.

During their tour of the impressive Dangote facilities, which include both the Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals as well as Dangote Fertilisers, the Japanese delegation praised the innovative technology on display. They noted that the sophistication of the facilities serves as a clear indication of Nigeria’s strategic importance as the gateway to Africa’s burgeoning economic potential.
