On Tuesday evening, a suicide attack in the northwest region of Pakistan led to the deaths of 10 soldiers, as confirmed by an intelligence source to AFP. This devastating incident occurred just a day after another bombing in the area, which saw eight lives lost in the volatile border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan, further intensifying concerns over rising violence.
“A suspected suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden vehicle near the checkpoint, after which his accomplices opened fire,” an intelligence official said of the latest attack in Bannu.
“As of the latest updates, 10 people have been killed and seven injured in the attack,” he said.
The explosion was described by the official as causing significant harm to the Mali Khel checkpoint, with severe damage to its structural components and military vehicles, underscoring the considerable impact the attack had on the facility’s operational capacity.
The attack was later claimed by the Hafiz Gul Bahadur armed group, which has been linked to a series of similar violent actions in the area, adding to the rising tension and instability in the region.

The official, who requested to remain unnamed, noted that the bombing in northwest Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province occurred barely 24 hours after another attack in the same region, further underscoring the ongoing instability and security concerns plaguing the area.
The officer provided details that the clash on Monday, which took place in the Tirah area, led to a deadly toll, with eight soldiers and nine militants losing their lives, a grim reflection of the region’s ongoing security crisis.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for that attack.
