‘Edo Guber Poll Is A Do-Or-Die Affair’ – Gov Obaseki

The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has on Saturday warned that next week’s governorship election in the state is indeed a ‘do-or-die affair’.

Obaseki also gave a stern warning that any form of electoral malpractice from the opposition party would lead to death.

He spoke during a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, rally in the Ekemwan area of the state.

“The person I took over from had no respect for our people, had no respect for women, encouraged prostitution and women trafficking.

“When I took over office our pensioners wore black on Labour Day buy today they wear white.

“When I took office, our youths had no jobs, but today don’t they have jobs? After eight years is Edo not one of the safest in Nigeria?

“This election is a do or die, if they do, we will die. Next week Saturday by this time, vote for PDP to become the next governor.”

On Saturday, September 21, the people of Edo State will file out to vote for the next governor of the state.

Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party, LP, are the front runners in the governorship election.

In another news, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has informed political parties and their candidates participating in the Edo State governorship election that signing the Peace Accord does not automatically ensure a peaceful election.

He called for commitment to the implementation of the Peace Accord.

Yakubu made a statement on Wednesday while political parties were signing the Peace Accord for the 2024 governorship election in the state.

The Peace Accord was agreed to in the presence of a former Head of State and Chairman of the National Peace Committee, General Abdulsalami Abubakar. Also present were a representative of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, the Inspector-General of Police, representatives of the Oba of Benin, National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, chairpersons of political parties in the state, candidates and their running mates, as well as the media, among others.
