Devastating Floods: Govs Garner Support For Borno State

The governors of Lagos, Ondo, Adamawa, and Kwara States have promised to provide their assistance to Borno State in light of the severe flooding in Maiduguri. The flooding has caused the displacement of thousands of people and has left communities in urgent need of help.

Sanwo-Olu mentioned that they came to express support for Borno Governor Babagana Zulum and the people affected by the calamity.

In a message posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Sanwo-Olu conveyed his deep concern for the affected families.

He described the disaster, as one of the worst floods in Maiduguri’s history, which has prompted a nationwide call for relief.

“Today, I joined the governors of Ondo, Adamawa, and Kwara on a visit to Borno State to extend our support to Governor Babagana Zulum in light of the tragic flooding in Maiduguri. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected by this disaster,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu emphasised the importance of a united response to the crisis, urging the nation to rally behind Borno State.

“The extent of the flooding in Maiduguri is truly devastating. As a nation, it is important that we come together to provide relief, assist in rescue operations, and ensure that those affected receive the necessary aid,” he said.

The governors commended the ongoing rescue efforts and lauded the resilience of the affected communities.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Maiduguri and commend the ongoing rescue efforts. The community’s resilience is truly inspiring, and Lagos remains dedicated to offering our support in every possible way,” Sanwo-Olu added.

In another news, Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has saved 719 individuals from the flood that affected Maiduguri and Jere areas in the state as reported by The Eastern Updates.

The agency’s Director-General, Mohammed Barkindo, revealed this information while providing an update on the flood’s progression into its second day on Wednesday.

Barkindo explained that the victims were trapped on rooftops, trees, and upstairs in various locations around the town.
