CAF stated that the reason for the withdrawal was a combination of structural and maintenance issues.
The organization responsible for overseeing football was displeased with the state of the playing field, mentioning uneven surfaces, inadequate grass cover, and poor drainage during a recent evaluation.
There have been challenges like these at other stadiums in Ghana such as Cape Coast and Accra Sports Stadium. As a result, Ghana currently does not have an authorized venue for their important upcoming AFCON qualifiers.
CAF have now directed Ghana to find an alternative stadium for their Matchday 3 and 4 AFCON qualifiers, which will be played in October.
In light of this, the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Nigeria, has emerged as a frontrunner, according to Myjoyonline.
The stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom capital, appears to be the most convenient option for the Black Stars.
Other potential locations being looked at are the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny and Stade de la Paix in Côte d’Ivoire, along with Japoma Stadium in Douala, Cameroon, and Berkane Municipal Stadium in Morocco.
Ghana will reveal its final decision to CAF within the coming days.
On Tuesday in Kigali, the Nigerian Super Eagles team was unable to secure a victory against Rwanda in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The match ended goalless between both countries.
The Super Eagles may feel unfairly treated as a goal that appeared to be valid was disallowed in the first half.
Ademola Lookman put the ball into the net after receiving Victor Boniface’s header from a throw-in.
But the referee ruled it out.
Both sides saw their goalkeepers make fine saves to maintain the stalemate.
Group D is currently led by Nigeria, who have accumulated four points. In second place in the group is Rwanda, with a total of two points.
