The Eastern learned on Saturday from a source that the ten travelers taken hostage on September 2 while on the Bonny-Port Harcourt waterway were freed when their captors abandoned them.
The source revealed that the abductors fled in haste when they noticed operatives from the Nigerian Navy‘s Forward Operations Base (FOB) in Bonny searching for the victims.
According to a source at FOB Bonny who requested anonymity, the base’s operatives had been hot on the trail of the kidnappers since the abduction was reported. The source attributed the kidnappers’ sudden flight and abandonment of their victims along the Onne channel to the base’s relentless intelligence gathering.
