Anambra State authorities have taken a decisive step to safeguard the sanctity of public schools, prohibiting the hosting of social events, including weddings and shows, on school grounds. This measure ensures that these institutions remain dedicated to learning and personal growth.
According to an official statement released in Awka on Saturday, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the state’s Education Commissioner, has shed light on the new directive. The statement, signed by Permanent Secretary Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu, confirms the government’s stance on the matter.
According to Prof. Chuma-Udeh, the primary motivation behind this decision is to safeguard school facilities and infrastructure from damage and deterioration, ensuring they remain conducive to learning.

“This is a warning to all principals and head teachers to desist from using school premises as commercial venture.
“Henceforth, any principal or primary school head teacher who indulges in such act will be severely dealt with,” she said.
To ensure a seamless implementation of the new policy, Prof. Chuma-Udeh has instructed the Chairmen of PPSSC and ASUBEB to promptly notify all principals and head teachers across the state, guaranteeing that the directive reaches every corner of the education sector.
Furthermore, Prof. Chuma-Udeh has charged school heads with the responsibility of enforcing the policy, ensuring that all social events are prohibited on school grounds and that the focus remains on academic excellence.
