In a bid to ensure the integrity of Anambra State‘s forthcoming local government elections, Igwe Chigozie, the PDP chairman, is pressing the state’s Independent Electoral Commission to maintain a neutral stance.
As the electoral body sets the stage for the polls, Chigozie’s emphasis on a free and fair process resonates deeply.In a no-holds-barred address to the press in Awka, Igwe Chigozie, the PDP chairman, challenged ANSIEC to remain impartial and unbiased in the face of political pressure.
He cautioned that any perceived tilt towards the APGA government would compromise the integrity of the local government elections and betray the public’s trust.
The PDP chairman made it clear that his party would not hesitate to take action if it suspected any form of electoral malfeasance.
With the party’s sights set on a decisive victory, Igwe Chigozie asserted that the PDP was fully prepared to claim the majority of seats, and would not tolerate any attempts to undermine its success.
He said, “The PDP has been strategising and working tirelessly towards the future elections in the state, including the 2025 governorship elections.

“We urge ANSIEC to adhere to the principles of transparency, fairness, and impartiality in the planning and conduct of the elections. Anything short of that would be unacceptable to the PDP and the people of Anambra State.
“We call on the electoral body to ensure that all eligible voters are given the opportunity to participate in the electoral process without any form of intimidation or harassment.”
The PDP chairman, Igwe Chigozie, was bullish about his party’s chances in the local government elections, pointing to its widespread popularity and acceptance among the state’s residents. He argued that this broad-based support would propel the PDP to a decisive win.
Igwe Chigozie reiterated the PDP’s ironclad commitment to democracy and its determination to ensure the people’s voices are heard loud and clear in the forthcoming elections. He pledged that the party would work tirelessly to secure victory, upholding the democratic process and honoring the will of the people.
Reports has it that the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on Tuesday inaugurated the board of ANSIEC, to be chaired by Genevieve Osakwe, with the responsibility of conducting the local government elections last conducted in the state in 2014.
The date for the local government elections has yet to be fixed, but expectations are high in the state that the 21 local government areas would soon have elected chairmen as against caretaker committee chairmen being appointed by the successive governors every three months since 2014.
