The Abia State government has initiated a decisive move to tackle the Ovom Aba erosion challenge by engaging a reputable contractor, who will deploy specialized techniques to control the erosion, protect the environment, and ensure public safety.
In a further boost to the state’s infrastructure development, the Abia State government has appointed a contractor to revitalize and expand the iconic Aba Enyimba Hotel, poised to transform it into a world-class destination.
Prince Okey Kanu, Commissioner for Information and Culture, revealed the latest developments during a briefing yesterday, following the weekly state executive council meeting, where strategic decisions were made to drive progress in Abia State.
The Commissioner explained that the move to combat the erosion was prompted by the grave risk it posed to the safety and well-being of residents, as well as the potential loss of property, highlighting the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens.

Mr. Ukeje, Director General of GADA, informed the press that the contractor would expedite the process of stopping the erosion’s destructive path, preventing further havoc, and implement a thorough reclamation of the devastated area, ensuring a return to normalcy.
The Commissioner noted that the Governor Otti-led administration has chosen to broaden the Aba Enyimba Hotel’s horizons, redeveloping it into a premier international conference center, equipped to accommodate high-profile events and conferences, and solidify Abia State’s position on the global stage.
The Aba Enyimba Hotel, a project conceived by the erstwhile East Central State government and subsequently inherited by the old Imo and Abia state administrations, had languished in a state of dormancy for decades, its potential unrealized until now.
