Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafra advocate, has confessed to and claimed responsibility for the deadly attack that left four Imo State policemen dead on Monday.
A police patrol team came under fire from armed attackers while conducting a security operation in the Irete community, along the Onitsha Road corridor in Owerri, Imo State, in a disturbing incident that has raised concerns about the safety of law enforcement personnel.
Tragically, the assault also claimed the life of a Point of Sale (PoS) operator, who was caught in the crossfire during the ambush, adding to the toll of the senseless attack.
Contrary to initial reports, a reliable source has clarified that the death toll among police personnel stands at four, not six, following the brutal ambush in Owerri.
Ekpa took to X to make a bold declaration, stating that his Biafra Defence Forces were behind the ambush, leaving no doubt about their involvement in the violent incident.
Ekpa further boasted that his Biafra Defence Forces had successfully seized weapons from the attacked police operatives, touting the incident as a tactical victory.

Ekpa, who often refers to Nigerian security personnel as “terrorists”, demanded the withdrawal of all Nigerian security forces from the Southeast.
Henry Okoye, police spokesman in the state, confirmed the incident.
“The Biafra Defence Forces Owerri Command has recovered weapons from the terrorists after neutralising them in numbers. Withdrawal of all the Nigeria terrorists from Biafraland is the demand and we approach declaration in December.
“If you think you will continue to use force and terrorism tactics to force us to remain in the union, this will continue to be your faith in Biafraland,” he wrote.
Ekpa publicly gloated about the alleged capture of weapons from the police operatives, trying to present the incident as a major accomplishment for his group.
The footage, however, was carefully edited to conceal the faces of the individuals speaking, maintaining their anonymity.
The Eastern Updates reports that this incident is the most recent in a series of targeted attacks on security personnel by non-state actors in Imo State and the broader South-East region.
