On Tuesday night, Senator Jibrin Barau, the Deputy President of the Senate, broke the news to journalists in Abuja that President Bola Tinubu has officially endorsed the North-West Development Commission Bill. This milestone moment marks the culmination of Barau’s tireless efforts to push the legislation forward.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday night, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, shared the exciting news that President Bola Tinubu has given his official approval to the South-East Development Commission Bill.
This legislation, sponsored by his principal, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, marks a significant milestone in the quest for regional development.

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau has showered praise on President Bola Tinubu for signing the North-West Development Commission Bill into law, hailing it as a landmark achievement for the region. With the bill now an Act of the National Assembly, Barau’s commendation reflects the widespread enthusiasm for this groundbreaking legislation.
Beaming with joy, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau shared his elation with journalists over President Tinubu’s assent to the North-West Development Commission Bill. He emphasized that the commission, once established, would serve as a catalyst for growth and development across the seven states in the North-West zone.

Senator Barau explained that he introduced the Bill as a federal lawmaker from the North-West zone to help restore the region’s lost glory, which has been eroded by the devastating effects of Boko Haram insurgency, armed banditry, and other anti-development crimes.
Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau vowed that stakeholders would join forces to ensure the commission serves its intended purpose, bringing development to the North-West zone. He also appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting President Tinubu’s development agenda across the country.
Senator Barau, who represents Kano North, said: “President Bola Tinubu today signed into law, the North West Development Commission Bill sponsored by me.
“The Commission will assist in the development of geo-political zone in terms of required infrastructure, production of food, etc.
“It would be recalled that Boko Haram, kidnappers and bandits ravaged the zone like the North-East with attendant drop in development indices.
“With the assent to the bill, the coast is now clear for rebuilding of the zone.
“President Tinubu has no doubt shown that he loves the people and in the light of this, I called on Nigerians to be patient with Mr President.”
The Deputy Senate President affirmed that President Tinubu’s gestures have unmistakably demonstrated his love for the nation, and accordingly, he implored Nigerians to remain patient and cooperative with the President’s initiatives.
