The Joint Task Force’s Operation Delta Safe (OPDS) has unleashed a fierce assault on Abia’s illegal oil refining infrastructure, identifying and dismantling multiple clandestine sites in a bid to stem the tide of black market oil activity and restore order to the region’s petroleum sector.

The announcement was made by Rear Admiral John Okeke, who serves as the Commander, during a press briefing held in Yenagoa on the last day of the week.

The Commander detailed the task force’s recent accomplishments, which included the interception of 14 boats loaded with contraband crude oil.

These enforcement actions took place across various sites in Abia State, encompassing Obuzor, Okoloma, and the Komkom River area.

As per the official report, the aerial component of the task force spearheaded the operation, which was initiated based on reliable data supplied by observant members of the public.

The Rear Admiral explained that the initiative was carefully orchestrated and executed to address illegal practices occurring in the vicinity of Obuzor and the riverine areas of Okoloma and Komkom.

He said that the operation was to send a clear message that oil crime and economic sabotage within the Niger Delta Region would not be tolerated.

He stated that they possessed the requisite expertise, capacity, and resolve to successfully confront and prevent illegal oil activities, while also ensuring the protection and preservation of the nation’s crucial resources and infrastructure.

“We are ready, capable and determined in the task of combating illegal oil activities, and preserving the nation’s critical assets,” he said.
