Anambra State authorities took drastic action on Friday, sealing off over 30 clandestine health centers run by unscrupulous individuals posing as medical professionals. This intervention prioritizes the well-being of citizens by putting a stop to subpar treatment and potential health risks.
Anambra State’s top health official, Afam Obidike, made a startling disclosure at the Nigerian Medical Association’s 2024 annual symposium, sparking intense debate among medical professionals. The event, which honored the legacy of Festus Nwako, shed light on the state’s most pressing health concerns.
In a crusade against medical charlatans, the Anambra State government is taking bold steps to root out quackery, according to Commissioner Afam Obidike. He emphasized the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on the issue, vowing to restore integrity to the healthcare system.
To tackle the scourge of quackery head-on, the Soludo administration has launched a groundbreaking initiative – the State Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency.
This innovative agency is tasked with policing the healthcare landscape, weeding out unlicensed practitioners, and guaranteeing that medical services meet the highest standards.

“So far, we have closed down over 30 health facilities in the state, and we discovered that the owners and operators of these hospitals are not even medical doctors.
“These quacks were making so much money because they do not have conscience. They were carrying out surgeries and toying with the health and lives of our people.
“We are appealing to the NMA to partner with the state government to eliminate quackery in the health sector to save people from untimely death and improve their life expectancy,” he said.
The commissioner said the state government was committed to improving healthcare delivery.
Commissioner Afam Obidike announced a major healthcare investment, as the government launches a statewide initiative to revamp public hospitals and bolster the healthcare workforce.
