Joe Igbokwe, a prominent voice in the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reiterated the need for Nigeria to address the lingering imbalance in the country’s political sphere, insisting that the Southeast region is entitled to an additional state.
The debate over state creation in the Southeast region has gained momentum, with APC chieftain, Igbokwe, weighing in on the issue.
On his Facebook page, he emphasized that the Southeast is entitled to an additional state and governor, highlighting the region’s long-standing demand for equal representation.
Igbokwe’s statement comes as the Senate considers a bill proposing the creation of Adada State, sponsored by Senator Okey Ezea, representing Enugu North Senatorial District.
The bill, tagged “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Alteration) Bill, 2024 (SB. 482)”, aims to amend the Constitution to pave the way for an additional state in the South-East region.

The new state would be carved out of Anambra, Abia, Imo, Enugu, and Ebonyi States, comprising 11 Local Government Areas with Lokpanta as its capital.
Five lawmakers, Amobi Ogah, Miriam Onuoha, Kama Nkemkama, Chinwe Nnabuife, and Anayo Onwuegbu, presented the proposal. If successful, Etiti State would become a reality, addressing the region’s longstanding quest for greater representation.
If Etiti State comes to fruition, it would be a game-changer for the region, bringing about substantial economic and political shifts that would reverberate throughout the country’s political arena.
