The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti has commiserated with the Nigerian Army over an attack on soldiers by some criminal elements at Milverton Avenue, Aba.
The governor, in a statement made available by his Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko on Saturday, said he had been informed of the incident which occurred on Friday evening.
The statement quoted the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Governor, Mr Chukwunenye Alajemba, as confirming that one soldier died in the incident while another, who sustained injury is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

Otti commended the officers and men of the Army for “exercising restraint in the face of this unprovoked attack”, specifically thanked the Commander of 14 Brigade Nigerian Army Ohafia, Brig. Gen. O.O. Diya “for his prompt intervention and for ensuring that peace continues to prevail in the city of Aba”.
The Abia governor urged members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses without fear.
In another report, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate from the 2023 election, and Abia State Governor Alex Otti have been chosen to head the party’s governorship campaign team in Ondo State.
Joining the campaign council are legislators elected on the Labour Party ticket and prominent members of the Obidient Movement abroad.
Olusola Ayodele, who chaired the party’s governorship primaries in Ondo State, revealed this information during a meeting with South-West party leaders on Friday in Akure.
Dr. Ayodele Olorunfemi, the former General Secretary of the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies, won the LP governorship ticket in the April 27 primary in Ondo State.
Ayodele announced that a task force, including the party’s regional leaders, has been assembled to expedite campaign activities in the state.
