A cohort of individuals affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, spearheaded by former General Manager of the Abia State Roads Maintenance Agency (ABROMA), Okochi Okali-Oge, have defected to the ruling Labour Party (LP) in the state.

His statement was publicly revealed through a press release on Friday in Umuahia, the administrative hub of Abia State.

It’s worth noting that Okali-Oge previously contested as the candidate for the Action Peoples Party (APP) in the 2023 State House of Assembly elections for the Ohafia North constituency seat in Abia State, as conducted by the Nigeria Electoral Commission.

However, he faced defeat against the candidate fielded by the Labour Party, who now occupies the role of representing the Ohafia North constituency in the state legislative house.

Subsequently, Okali-Oge moved from the APP to the former ruling PDP in Abia State.

Recent remarks from Mr. Okali-Oge have shed light on the deficiency of internal democracy within the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, serving as the predominant rationale behind his political repositioning.

Highlighting Governor Alex Otti’s resolute dedication and the remarkable advancements under his administration in enhancing the state’s infrastructure, the Abia stalwart articulated that his transition to the Labour Party was influenced by these significant factors.

In his words, “I have witnessed firsthand a government that upholds its promises to the people under the Labour Party, and I have chosen to align with them in advancing the progress of our state.”

Moreover, Mr. Okali-Oge declared his willingness to contribute to the progress of Abia State by utilizing his acquired expertise and substantial experience in engineering to assist the government’s development endeavors.
