Anambra State remains on edge as tension escalates, with suspected gunmen responsible for the tragic killing of at least nine security personnel.
The incident unfolded in Oba, located in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, during the midnight hours of Sunday, December 10.
According to an undisclosed source, the invaders, arriving in two Hilux vehicles, were a considerable number when they attacked the club house.
The source went on to explain that the main goal was to capture the owner of the club house, a plan thwarted by the resolute resistance of the Vigilance security men stationed at the venue.
The source said: ‘And in anger, the gunmen opened fire on the security operatives and killed all of them including one police man and left.’

‘Before they left, they beheaded one of their victims and cut off the leg of another.’
Confirming the report, Anambra state police public relations officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, said the assailants would not go unpunished, adding that the command was on their trail.
However, he said those killed were the operatives of local vigilante in Oba in a nightclub, describing it as unfortunate
Ikenga said: ‘Yes, the incident happened. Our men were alerted and they quickly moved to the scene of the incident, but the gunmen had already fled.’
‘Our men have recovered the bodies of the vigilante operatives who were fatally wounded, while others sustained various degrees of injury.’
‘We have also fully deployed our men to Oba, and operation is ongoing. So far, no arrest has been made,’ he said.
The recent assault on the nightclub by gunmen is not an isolated incident in the community. Previously, several months ago, one of the well-known native doctors in the area (whose identity remains confidential) was kidnapped from his hotel.
After spending several days in captivity, it was later revealed that a huge ransom was paid to the hoodlums for the release of the native doctor who was kidnapped from his hotel.
