Gov Otti Pledges Support For Abia Federal Medical Centre

Listen to article

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has committed to providing extensive backing to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) located in Umuahia, for the completion of the medical centre’s new accident and emergency ward.

Otti said this while engaging in discussions with Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi, the chief medical director of the health centre, during an unscheduled visit to the facility.

Given its limited space and inadequate provisions, the prevailing accident and emergency ward is faced with challenges in effectively attending to the substantial number of daily patient admissions at the facility. To rectify this, a new wing is presently under construction.

As the singular functional public medical facility in Abia State, FMC Umuahia assumes the critical role of addressing emergency situations, alongside managing secondary and tertiary healthcare cases.

Engaging in a conversation with the director, Otti elaborated on the rationale behind his hospital visit, placing emphasis on his aim to supervise the hospital’s operations firsthand and he expressed his sympathy for patients who are undergoing treatment for diverse medical conditions.

He gave his word to personally bear the financial burdens of the patients he came across during his visit to the hospital.

In light of the governor’s visit and generous deeds, Prof Onyebuchi offered thanks, describing his compassionate attitude as something truly unprecedented.
