Kalu declared his interest to join the race for the Senate presidency on March 21, saying it was his turn to assume the apex position of the Red Chamber.

He had since met with the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, and President Muhammadu Buhari where he informed them of his ambition.

Kalu, who is in the race with his closest contender, Senator Godswill Akpabio, had also written personal letters to the members of the National Working Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress and 108 Senators-elect of his interest to be the next Senate President.

Recall that Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi had last week opened up on President-elect, Bola Tinubu called him, and asked him to step down for Senator Godswill Akpabio in the race for the 10th Senate’s presidency.

Umahi made the disclosure on Monday at the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport, Onueke while answering questions from newsmen on arrival to the state from Abuja.

The governor said that he discussed the issue of his senate presidency bid with Tinubu and had to accede to his request in the interest of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the South East zone.
