Hoodlums Who Attacked INEC Office Are IPOB Members – Police

The Police Command in Imo State has linked Monday morning’s attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Imo State on the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Mr. Mike Abattam who is the spokesman of the Command disclosed that the gunmen who attacked INEC’s office in the state were members of IPOB.

Abattam explained that investigations into the attack showed that IPOB members were responsible.

His words; ‘They are suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra. It is the outcome of our investigation that will determine those that will be held complicit.

“We gave them a hot chase. The Command’s tactical teams were able to follow them and in the process, we were able to neutralize three of them,” he told reporters.

The Eastern Updates reports that some unknown gunmen attacked INEC office in Owerri, Imo State.

The incident which occurred on Monday led to the death of no fewer than three suspects.

In his reaction to the attack, Governor described it as ‘politically contrived’ vowing to do everything possible to bring it to an end.

The governor made the comment at the Imo Police Command Headquarters in Owerri yesterday in the aftermath of an attack on the INEC headquarters in the South-East state which led to five deaths.

While addressing the press after the visit, the Governor said; ‘If we collaborate this with the events of the past, we have continuously said that what is happening in Imo State is politically contrived’.

‘Some people think that they can win the election yet they don’t want the election. How would they now win?’

The Eastern Updates reports that with less than three months to the general election, Governor Uzodimma described the attacks as a distraction to the electoral body.
