Listen to article

At least, eight people were killed in three communities in Eha Amafu, in Isiuzo Council of Enugu State, yesterday, following an invasion by armed Fulani herdsmen in the area.

The Eastern Updates gathered that the armed herdsmen, who invaded Aguamaede, Mgbuji, and Eboh communities in the early hours of Saturday with heavy weapons, shooting, and setting targets on fire, continued their onslaught yesterday.

On Saturday, one person was reportedly killed while seven others, including two daughters of the Pastor of the Apostolic Faith Church, Eha Amegbude, and another woman, were killed on Monday.

The Police, however, refused to speak on the development at press time. But the Enugu State Police Command’s Spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, simply sent a text message: ‘I have to verify that please.’

Against the backdrop of attacks on farmers at Aguamaede and Mgbuji communities in Eha Amufu, the Anglican Bishop of Eha Amufu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Daniel Olinya has expressed gratitude to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his administration’s prompt interventions in the crisis, including the release of N10 million for victims in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting with Ugwuanyi at the Government House, Enugu, Bishop Olinya said that he was impressed with ‘the prompt interventions of state government.’

He said: ‘I want to thank the governor for releasing N10 million for victims.

‘I am happy for the prompt intervention of the state government in the crisis in Eha Amufu.’

‘Victims of the crisis won’t feel left out in their problems. I am sure when we take this money to them, every one of them would be happy.’

In another report, Ugwuanyi, on Monday, at the Government House, Enugu, received Mr. Noel Alumona, an indigene of the state and first African to win 108-year-old AFS Award for Young Global Citizens at the 2022 United Nations’ International Youth Day.

Alumona, who was accompanied by his wife, Dr. Chinenye Uzochukwu, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora Matters, Mrs. Olangwa Ezekwu, formally presented the award to Ugwuanyi and invited the governor as a Special Guest of Honour to a youth leadership conference being organised by his organisation, Boys Champions, Washington, DC, at The Base Landmarks Event Centre, Independence Layout, Enugu, on November 25, 2022.
