Imo Dismisses IMSUTH CMD Over Alleged Fraud

The Imo State Executive Council has directed the immediate dismissal of the Chief Medical Director of Imo State University Teaching Hospitality, Orlu, Dr B. C. Duru.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Electronic Media, Amaka Okafor, said in a statement on Thursday that the decision was taken during the council’s meeting which held at the Government House in Owerri.

She stated that the council adopted a white paper submitted by the IMSUTH visitation panel.

The statement said the council ordered that the CMD and his management team be handed over to the police for further investigation.

The statement read in part, ‘The Imo State Executive Council has directed the immediate dismissal of Dr B. C. Duru, the Chief Medical Director of the Imo State University Teaching Hospital, Orlu.’

‘Briefing Journalist at the end of Wednesday’s exco meeting at the Government House, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Declan Emelumba, said the council adopted a white paper recommended by the IMSUTH visitation panel and ordered that the CMD and his management be handed over to the police for further investigation.’

‘He noted that the council wondered why the wage bill of the institution would jump from ₦147m to ₦236m from December 2019 to January 2020 in just one month, noting that the management took advantage of the new administration to fraudulently pad the wage bill to short-change the government.

‘Emelumba also said the council ordered a thorough investigation into other sharp practices in the accounts department of the institution that had been unaudited from 2017 to 2019, and illegal payment of clinical and teaching allowances to administrative staff, among others.’

‘He said the council also approved the restoration of all illegally allocated plots in and around the state capital, revocation of their C of Os and restoration of original names and plans of all layouts within Owerri Capital Territory, adding that all these was sequel to the adoption of another white paper on lands and related matters as recommended by the panel of inquiry on land in the state.’
