Anambra: Youth, NHRC, Others Rise Against Rape, Violence

Campaign Against Crime Initiative (CACI), a national youth action group comprising over a hundred youngsters, has condemned the spate of rape, violence, and other criminalities among youths in Anambra State.

CACI, in an advocacy match held at major streets of  Awka on Tuesday, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Awka, National Orientation Agency (NOA), National Human Rights Commission, and others, urged youths to refrain from what they termed ‘illegalities’ and embrace various job opportunities in the state and nationwide.

Leader of the protesters, Mr Timothy Nwachukwu, while addressing Blueprint, said youth as leaders of tomorrow should discover, develop and invest their talents into meaningful ventures with a view to becoming employers of labour.

“We are against rape. We say no to kidnapping. We say no to violence. We say no to internet fraud, fake news and other forms of criminalities. These are affecting our youths so badly. So many have died and many are sick and suffering because of them. We don’t want this to continue. Our society must join us to rise against this so that our society will be free of them,” he added.

Nwachukwu, who said his group focus on crime detection, crime prevention and crime reduction, implored the Anambra State House of Assembly to enact more laws capable of discouraging people from engaging into any form of criminalities.

Also speaking, the Vice President, Rotary Club of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr Emmanuel Ojukwu, said Rotary Club agreed to join the youth in the campaign due to their desires to get a better society.

Responding, the member representing Njikoka One state constituency, Dr Timothy Ifedioranma, hailed the youths for taking up the challenge to rid the state of criminalities, noting that the Assembly would not in legislating to nip crimes to bud for better society.
