Qatar’s midfielder, Assim Madibo, has been given a five-game ban because of a challenge he made on Ismael Kone.
The tackle caused the Canadian player to break both the tibia and fibula bones in his left leg during the 2026 World Cup.
Madibo was shown a red card during Qatar’s 6-0 loss last Thursday.
Now, FIFA’s disciplinary committee has decided to ban him for five matches due to serious foul play, although he can appeal this decision.
Kone, who plays for the Italian team Sassuolo, had surgery right after the game in Vancouver.
Madibo has since visited the 24-year-old in the hospital.
Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, broke at least four records as they beat Austria 2-0 in their second Group H fixture at the 2026 World Cup.
This was confirmed by the Guiness World Records in a tweet on Monday night.
Messi got the two goals as the current holders qualified for the knockouts of the competition.
