Anambra State has lost a former deputy speaker of its state legislature. Rt. Hon. D. B. Afam Obi, who held the position in the Anambra State House of Assembly, died recently, with his family confirming the news in a statement issued Saturday.
Obi hailed from Ihembosi in Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
The family offered few details beyond the fact of his passing, saying funeral arrangements would be made known in due course.
What they dwelt on instead was the shape of the life he lived — one they characterised as oriented toward others, marked by consistency in public duty and a rootedness in community that outlasted his years in formal office.

He was, by the family’s account, a man who moved through public life without spectacle. A lawmaker, a father, a figure his community leaned on.
The statement spoke of quiet strength and wisdom as the hallmarks of his character, and expressed confidence that what he built — in governance, in the lives around him — would carry forward.
“His legacy of quiet strength, wisdom, and commitment to the growth of society will continue to inspire generations,” the family said, noting the volume of condolences already received since news of his death spread.
His age and the circumstances surrounding his death were not disclosed.
