Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Anambra State, George Moghalu, has officially resigned from the party, effective immediately.
In a letter dated January 26, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of Ward 1, Labour Party, Uruagu, Nnewi, Moghalu shared the announcement on his X account. “I bring you the good wishes of my family and to formally inform you of my resignation from the Labour Party, effective today, the 26th of January, 2026,” the letter stated. He expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to contest the 2025 Anambra governorship election and requested that his regards be conveyed to party members, signing off as “Ohamadike Na Nnewi.”
Moghalu’s political journey has seen multiple shifts. He was formerly a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), serving as National Auditor before resigning in August 2024, citing personal reasons and seeking a “better platform” to pursue his governorship ambition. In October 2024, he joined the Labour Party and in April 2025 secured its governorship ticket for Anambra State.

Despite his efforts, Moghalu lost the November 8, 2025, election to Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who secured a return ticket as governor. Following the results, Moghalu rejected the outcome, calling the election a “scam” and alleging widespread vote-buying and irregularities.
Prior to his political career, Moghalu served as the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) from 2019 to 2023. His resignation from the Labour Party marks another turn in a career characterized by shifts between major political platforms in pursuit of his gubernatorial ambitions.
This departure comes amid ongoing political realignments in Anambra State, where the Labour Party and APGA remain key contenders in shaping the region’s political landscape.
